*** Please note: You must be a member of QWC to book an Editorial Consultancy ***
Established in 2000, the Editorial Consultancy Service’s main aim is to provide financial members of Queensland Writers Centre with the opportunity to discuss their writing projects with an established editor or professional author. The consultations are conducted either face to face or over the telephone, and last for up to an hour and a half.
The service allows writers to ask questions about, and gain greater insight into, the nature of the writing industry from a professional perspective. The service consultant can advise what publishers and editors are looking for in a manuscript, and therefore assist the author to maximise the publishing potential of their work. The consultant will assess the potential of the writing project and help establish, with the author, a pathway for the manuscript's development.
The service is directed to the author, not the manuscript. The consultant, while referring to a sample of writing provided, does not read the entire manuscript. The service is geared toward allowing the writer to complete their project according to their goals, by creating awareness of industry practice, procedure, and statistical realities. In this sense, the service is unique. While manuscript appraisals assess the merits of a manuscript as a piece of writing, such assessment is made independent of the author's objectives and goals. Manuscript appraisal services are directed to the manuscript, not the author.
While the Editorial Consultany Service aims to assist writers to develop their manuscript to its full potential, it does not provide the direct manuscript development of editing. The consultant will not edit the writer's work, and will not make direct editorial comment.
You will need to submit 20 pages of your manuscript and a synopsis to QWC. We will find an appropriate consultant and liaise with you and the consultant to find a time that suits both of you.
Note: while we do our best to find an appropriate consultant for you, in some circumstances we may be unable to assist. In such a case, your ed con fee will be refunded.
