WQ magazine is published monthly by QWC. WQ is not just a magazine for Queensland writers – it examines issues and topics within the Australian writing community, while still maintaining a strong Queensland focus.
WQ is themed each month and contains feature articles, one-page articles and columns relevant to that theme, commissioned from writers in Queensland and the rest of the world. Each issue also contains four pages of competitions and opportunities, member milestones, workshops and events, and a monthly writing column from Kim Wilkins.
We want writers from around Australia to take an interest in their industry and use our magazine to find relevant information to their career or writing project.
WQ is delivered to QWC members on the first of every month (unless that day falls on a weekend).
Each edition has four pages of writing competitions and opportunities as well as columns and articles from agents, publishers, writers and other members.

How to Submit
WQ has an open policy for submissions. Planning for each issue of the magazine starts at least three months prior to the publication date. As such, for a submission to be chosen for a particular issue, it must arrive well in advance of the copy deadline.
The magazine is themed so if your submission fits no upcoming issue, it may not be accepted. View a list of upcoming themes for WQ in 2010. This list will be updated as the year progresses.
The editor also highly recommends you read past issues of WQ, to ensure you meet our editorial style guidelines and adhere to the identity of the publication. For past issues, follow the links above. Members can view past issues on this page, below (ensure you have logged in first).
Feature articles should be between 1,300 and 1,400 words, one-page articles should be between 800 and 900 words and columns should be no longer than 400 words. Please send submissions as Word document attachments to the editor at jdevantier[at]qwc.asn.au (please use @ symbol) . Email submissions are accepted from anywhere in the world. Contributors are paid for their work. Writers outside of Australia will be paid by PayPal.
QWC purchases first Australian rights if they are available, but is happy to look at work that has been previously published, as long as it is notified of the fact. The response time for submissions is approximately two weeks.
